Abajo Mountain means "the low mountain." Appropriately named as the low storm clouds cloaked the mountains throughout the weekend. We made our way along the mountain east rim exploring rock bands for new climbs. Overcasting clouds, cool temperatures, escaping setting sun rays, and the smell sage and pine made for an idyllic night walk.

Though not fully my <<climbing roots>> as titled, Idaho does hold a lot of firsts and lessons learned. First multi-pitch, first lead, first mishap, first bail, and first booty (all in climbing terms, of course haha).
The trip was a great relief from the SLC valley heat. We spent the weekend with C, S, and their 4 boys visiting and playing around on a local cliff. 4 boys...need I say more? We're training them young, so one day they will be guides for us! All the boys, even Steve, with Collete's (my flannel wearing cohort) motherly persuasion and example rappelled and ascended like champs. As much as we do make fun of Idaho it is a pretty rad state (primarily due to the Stosich clan).
P.S. I was on fireman, so excuse all the bum shots.
This weekend was spent with our friend Dan Christopherson, of 12 Finger Outdoor Adventure, who threw the inaugural Ice Festival at Bridal Veil Falls. It was a great opportunity for the community to get out, try a few lines, learn from seasoned climbers, and most importantly get people out climbing.

Past couple of weekends we've been down in Monticello working on Dustin's crag Keep It Like a Secret. Making first ascents and naming routes Lunar, The Monks Will Have You, Two to Tango, Okie Dokie, Okie Okie, and Darlin' Baby Bunker Boo are just a few. The area is beautiful this time of year, changing leaves with snow capped Abajo mountains. There's even a bouldering area above the wall.

If you look close you can see one of Dustin's b-day presents...a mullet. |

Bloody knuckles. |
Indian Creek--The North and South Six Shooter |
It was my birthday, so by tradition I got a weekend. When Dustin asked what I wanted to do, in my coming to terms with 25 and needing something hardcore to override my fears, I instantly responded <<climb until my knuckles bleed>>. I know, I'm weird. So being the great husband he is, he complied and 1)borrowed the biggest cam I have ever laid my hands on 2)bought bolts and chains 3)packed the gear, picked me up from work, and we headed south.
Not only did I get my bloody knuckles, but I got in the first bolt to my own personal route in our crag. Also, that aforementioned cam was bomber protection while hand drilling bolts. So, here's to a quarter century, big cams, and of course bloody knuckles.
